Working on a great project is rewarding ... seeing that project finished, approved, and delivered brings a huge sigh of relief ... but seeing the project hit the masses really makes you proud to say you helped make it happen.
Today, American Airlines launches their promotion for their Android smartphone app, featuring the video that Green Grass produced with The Marketing Arm!
The 60 second video shows a traveler going through the normal steps at the airport - walking up to check-in, approaching the departure/arrival boards, boarding the flight, etc. What makes this traveler's journey different from the rest is that he has the luxury to skip many of these mundane procedures because he has everything he needs in the palm of his hand thanks to the AA Android App - allowing the airport to become a relaxing, peaceful, and enjoyable environment.
Check out some behind the scenes pics of the video shoot. The day started with a crew call at 7am. Needless to say ample amount of coffee were needed (thank you DFW for providing coffee and snacks throughout the day!). There were times throughout the day where it felt like all we did was wait for the travelers around us to move out of the shot - but we managed to keep ourselves entertained by telling the curious travelers coming up to us that we were waiting on Charlene Sheen, Chuck Norris, and many other random celebs. We had a few hang around to see if they would catch a glimpse!
First shot of the day - scanning the mobile boarding pass.
Austin getting ready to capture some authentic airport noises.
Second shot: the arrival/departure boards. Getting set up!
Patiently waiting for all the real DFW travelers to get out of the shot.
Setting up the Terminal Map shot - getting all the extras in place.

And...Action!
We waited an hour for this space to clear out - one of the last shots of the day
Once the shoot was done, the Green Grass vfx work began. GGS VFX Supervisor, Will Nicholson, led the team in editing shots, building models, and creating matte paintings in order to manipulate the live footage from the shoot and digitally transform the airport. Check out the finished video!
